2026 7v7 Girls Flag Rules

Field & Game Format

  • 7v7 format (7 players per team)
  • Played on a full-width field (53 1/3 yards)
  • Game is played on a 40-yard field segment with the end zone included
  • Each possession starts at the 40-yard line going in
  • Game is 20 minutes running clock (single period)
  • No halftime
  • No timeouts
  • Clock does not stop for any reason

Scoring

  • Touchdown: 6 points
  • Extra Point:
    • 1 point (from 5-yard line)
    • 2 points (from 10-yard line)
    • Interception 3 points
    • Interception returned for touchdown 6 points
    • Defensive stop 2 points
  • No kicking or field goals

Possession Format

  • Offense starts at the 40-yard line
  • Objective: advance and score
  • Limited plays per possession (officials control flow)
  • Turnover if offense is unsuccessful
  • No punts

Game Play (NFHS-Based)

  • Ball is snapped to the QB
  • QB has 7 seconds to throw
  • No blocking allowed (aligned with National Federation of State High School Associations standards)
  • All players are eligible receivers
  • One forward pass per play
  • Laterals/backward passes allowed
    • If the ball is lateraled the the ball is live and the other team can rush
    • NO Laterals when offense is on the 40

Rushing Rules

  • Rush line is 5 yards from the line of scrimmage
  • Defenders must start behind the rush line
  • QB cannot run unless pressured
  • No delayed blitz inside 5 yards
  • No rushing when offense is on the 40 yard line

Flag Pulling

  • Play is dead when:
    • Flag is pulled
    • Ball carrier goes out of bounds
    • Ball hits the ground
  • No tackling, diving, or initiating contact
  • Players must avoid contact

Turnovers

  • Interceptions are live and can be returned
  • No fumbles (dead ball where it hits the ground)

Penalties (Simplified)

  • Offsides: 5 yards
  • Illegal rush: 5 yards
  • Pass interference: Spot foul
  • Holding/illegal contact: 5 yards
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct: 10 yards or ejection

 BREAKER/OVERTIME RULES

  • Any bracket play game that ends in a tie will result in Overtime.
  • The higher seed will select if they want to be on offense or defense.
  • Each team will get 1 play from the 40-yard line and the furthest play will win.
  • Only offensive scoring will count in overtime.
    *If a game goes into a 2nd overtime, the team that gets the ball 2nd in the 1st overtime will receive the ball 1st in the 2nd overtime. 
  • There is NO running in overtime. All plays MUST be a pass.
  • Blitzes are allowed in overtime IF the team did not use their blitz during regulation.
  • This format will be repeated until a clear winner is declared.

Sportsmanship & Safety

  • Flags must be properly secured
  • No jewelry
  • Mouthguards encouraged
  • Officials have final say
  • Games may be adjusted for safety/weather
